| Color's And Pattern's |
 |
| ~ SOLIDS ~ |
 |
| This is a solid colored dog, with NO other color on it. They can be in any coat
type. |
| |
 |
RED - (can appear in all coat's): It is your basic red, brown to a mahogany red. Reds
DO NOT have any tan markings. A small amount of white on the chest is acceptable
but not desired. Nose and nails must be black. (Exception would be the wheaten
& liver nose red better known as the dilute red). Any pattern is acceptable.
|
 |
| BLACK - (can appear in all coat's): A black dachshund will be black all over without
any tan points. It will have black eyes, black nose and black nails. This is not
the result of continuous breeding of black/tan to black/tan. Black breeds true
and appears to breed dominant over the black/tan. The black is simply the 'B'
gene lacking the tan point gene. |
 |
 |
 |
CREAM - (can appear only in smooth and long hair): The color of the oily yellowish part
of non-homogenized milk. The lighter the better and should have the darkest eyes,
dark nose and dark nails. Colors range from a dingy looking white to a butter
looking color. They can also have black overlay (known as sable). |
 |
| BLUE - (can appear in all coat's): A BLUE WILL NOT HAVE ANY BLACK HAIRS ON IT, AT ALL! The Blue is close to a gray in color. It will be a gunmetal gray color. The
color should resemble a blue Doberman. It could have gray, hazel or green eyes.
The nose will be gray and the nails gray, as well. This is a recessive color,
so it must be showing or carried in both parents to appear. They have a tendency
to have color mutant alopecia. |

This Puppy Is The Daughter Of Quicki & Indi! |
ISABELLA - (fawn)-(can appear in all coat's): A ISABELLA CAN NOT HAVE ANY CHOCOLATE ON IT! The Isabella is a diluted chocolate. It will appear to have a washed out chocolate
look. This color should have a Weimaraner look. They will have gray eyes, gray
nose and gray nails. This is a recessive color, it must be showing or carried
by both parents to appear. They have a tendency to have mutant alopecia. |
 |
|
CHOCOLATE - (can appear in all coat's): A chocolate will be a dark chocolate all over without
any tan points. It will have brown to light brown eyes, a chocolate nose and nails.
These is a recessive color , it must be showing or carried by both parents to
appear, but breeds dominant to chocolate & tan.

 |
BLACK & TAN - (can appear in all coat's): The second most familiar dachshund color. A black/tan
dachshund will be black all over with tan points (tan on feet, over eyes, on the
face around muzzle, on chest and under the tail). It will also have black eyes,
a black nose and black nails. Black/tan is recessive to red. Which means a black/tan
bred to a black/tan, will produce all black/tans, unless they both carry the chinchilla
factor, which will crate a red recessive red puppy. |
 |
| BLACK & CREAM - (can appear only in smooth and long hair): A black/cream dachshund will be black
all over with cream points (cream on feet, over the eyes, on the face around the
muzzle, on the chest and under the tail). It will also have black eyes, black
nose and black nails. |

| ISABELLA & TAN - (fawn/tan)-(can appear in all coat's): A ISABELLA & TAN CAN NOT HAVE ANY

| Spots where some of the color is lighter. This can occur in all colors. The

can be solid blue.
Dapples can be in all coat types. |

 |
| ~ DOUBLE DAPPLES ~ |
| This only occurs, when BOTH parents are dapples. This does not mean the whole
litter will be dapples or double dapples. You could have a few solids in the litter
as well. This can occur in all coat types. |

|
|
| When breeding two DAPPLE together, please be very careful. You are dealing with
a LETHAL GENE. The puppies could all be ok, BUT you could have some with NO EYE'S,
SMALL EYE'S, COULD HAVE EYE'S BUT BE BLIND OR COULD NOT BE ABLE TO HEAR! So PLEASE
be very careful! |
 |
| ~ SABLE ~ |
| ( can only appear in long hair ) These terms (especially sable) are often mistakenly
used to refer to an interspersion of black hairs and neck over red color. A true
sable/wildboar will appear to be Black & Tan from a distance. The undercoat
beneath being red. Sable/Wildboar is a very heavy layer of black over the base
coat color. This is an uncommon pattern. This is a pattern that can not be truly
labeled until the pup is about 6 months of age. Many pups labeled sable/wildboar
lose the black overlay and become simply red with no pattern. |
| |
 |
| ~ BRINDLE ~ |
| Stripes all over, looks kind of like a Tiger. most often seen in the Reds. However,
it can show up in the Tan points, Cream points and in the Piebalds. This can occur
in all coat types. |

| ~ PIEBALD ~ |
| NOTE: The AKC does not give an explanation of the piebald color in the standards
however, it is listed on the registration papers. Piebald only occur, when both
parents are piebald or carry for piebald. Areas of full color on a white background,
example: Fox Terrier. They may also have ticking (small spots of color in the
white field, example; English Setter). Which could be a few spots on the toes
and muzzle or have heavy ticking all over. This can occur in all coat types. |

 |
| ~ DAPPLED PIEBALD ~ |
| NOTE: The AKC does not give an explanation of the dappled piebald color. AKC
does NOT recognize, this either. This comes from breeding a dapple carrying for
piebald to a piebald, or a solid carrying for piebald. The dog will be white and
have the colored spots on it, but in the solid color of the spots, it will have
dappling. AKC, wants you to label them as a DOUBLE DAPPLE. Some breeders are labeling
them as a PIEBALD. Just be very careful. If you were to take this dog and breed
it back to a dapple, you would be dealing with the LETHAL GENE. Some clubs will
let you label them correct, it should be a Dappled Piebald. The dapple should
come first |

 |
| WHEATEN - (only in the wire hair): The color of the oily yellowish part of non-homogenized
milk. The lighter the better and should have the darkest eyes, dark nose and dark
nails. Colors range from a dingy looking white to a butter looking color. ONLY IN THE WIRE'S |
? |
 |
| ? |
WILDBOAR - (can appear only in smooth and wire hair): Technically a color but in essence
a pattern. These terms (especially sable) are often mistakenly used to refer to
an interspersion of black hairs on back and neck over red color. A true red sable/wildboar
will appear to be black & tan from a distance. The undercoat beneath black
being red. Sable/wildboar is a very heavy layer of black over the base coat color.
This is an uncommon pattern. This is a pattern that cannot be truly labeled until
the pup reaches 6 months of age. Many pup's labeled sable/wildboar lose the black
overlay and become simply red with no pattern. |
